Mother's day/Μαμά...

The clothes I've never learned how to wash,
I bring them to you in a bag.
You keep asking about my job, how I spend my days and my nights
and I manage to answer you properly....

I'm hungry, mammy
I'm scared, mammy
I'm growing old, mammy
And I'm afraid to be what you've always predicted:
Pretty,young, and... unlucky in love.

I open your fridge and grab a Coke,
so that all will remain as they are....
but they change.
Your "welcome" and your "bye" were the most precious words in my life.

I'll always remember the years you were growing old for my sake,
I finished school with an A but,mother,
I have no good news for you,
Everything in this life is as fate dictates.

For 30 summers and winters
I bring you wild flowers
and-what a puzzling thing-people always comment that
 we look the same,
like two droplets of water.

I'm hungry, mammy
I'm scared, mammy
I'm growing old, mammy
And I'm afraid to be what you've always predicted:
Pretty,young, but unlucky in love.

Tania Tsanaklidou sung this song almost two years after my mother passed away. Tania's mother had also died at the same time...so it was like she was talking to me :]
Lina Nikolakopoulou wrote the lyrics,S.Kraounakis the music.
I've never managed to listen to it without crying...and I'll never stop missing her, never!!!

  1. Oh, what a heart-wrenching song, Desi! I know what you mean about things sometimes seeming to speak to you directly like a message.

Thank you for sharing this special song and your memories with me and Steve--he is listening to it now--it is hard to be without our mothers, no matter how much time has passed. *big hugs*
